Marquis, Riggleman suspended after beanballs with Diamondbacks

SAN FRANCISCO - Nationals pitcher Jason Marquis and manager Jim Riggleman have each been disciplined after Sunday's game with the Arizona Diamondbacks, where Marquis hit Justin Upton with a pitch in the sixth inning, following Esmerling Vasquez's hit-by-pitch of Jayson Werth in the fifth inning.

Marquis received a five-game suspension and an undisclosed fine; he's appealed the suspension, which was supposed to start tonight. Riggleman has been suspended for tonight's game against the Giants. He was also fined an undisclosed amount.

Marquis angrily pointed at the scoreboard when he was ejected, saying he wouldn't intentionally throw at a hitter in a 1-0 game. He was still upset about the ejection yesterday. Riggleman was also ejected by rule on Sunday.

Vasquez got a three-game suspension and a fine, and Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson got a one-game suspension and a fine.
