We're in the sixth inning at Nationals Park, and the Orioles just extended their lead back to three runs on Mark Reynolds' homer after Roger Bernadina hit on in the last inning. But as the Nationals try to sweep Baltimore, they've been far from precise.
The Nationals have committed two errors, and Jayson Werth, Bernadina and Laynce Nix have all bobbled balls in the outfield after base hits. The Orioles would have scored an extra run on Werth's fifth-inning bobble, but Chris Jakubauskas tried to score from first on a J.J. Hardy double and got thrown out with a dart to home plate from Danny Espinosa.
And in his first game back from the disabled list, Tom Gorzelanny looked as ragged as he did in the game before he went on the DL with elbow inflammation. He gave up 10 hits in 4 2/3 innings, and four of the five runs he allowed were earned. The Nationals haven't played well behind him today, but Espinosa did save him a run and started one of the team's two double plays.
Gorzelanny hasn't pitched through the sixth inning in his last four starts, and the Nationals trail 6-3 in the sixth.
