Finally, a run.
The Nationals have taken a 1-0 lead in the sixth inning against Colorado right-hander Jhoulys Chacin on a bat-shattering RBI single by Roger Bernadina.
Ian Desmond led off the inning with an infield single that glanced off the glove of third baseman Ian Stewart, Washington's second hit of the afternoon. He moved to second on a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt by Jordan Zimmermann, who pushed the ball about a third of the way down the first base line.
Bernadina then took a 2-0 fastball into right field, the impact of his bat against the 92 mph pitch shearing off the bat handle from the shaft, which helicoptered before landing just beyond first base. Desmond easily raced home from second for the game's first run.
Bernadina was caught stealing before Danny Espinosa drew a two-out walk Ryan Zimmerman ended the inning with a fielder's choice grounder to short.
The Nats finally got Chacin, who had faced only one over the minimum number of batters through five innings, to throw some pitches, pushing him to 67 pitches through six frames.
Zimmermann, by contrast entered the seventh having thrown 82 pitches. He's allowed three hits, walked none and struck out six.
Update: Zimmermann is out of the game, leaving with a 1-0 lead and a runner on first with one down in the seventh. Ryan Mattheus is in from the bullpen to try to protect the lead.
