The Nationals put together three singles off Pirates starter James McDonald, and Ivan Rodriguez's RBI single in the second cut the Pittsburgh lead to 2-1.
With one out, Michael Morse singled up the middle and went to second on Danny Espinosa's single to right. Rodriguez followed with a single to center, scoring Morse and moving Espinosa to second. Any hopes of a big inning, however, were dashed when McDonald picked Espinosa off second base.
McDonald then got Ian Desmond looking at a third strike to end the inning.
After two innings, it's Pirates 2, Nationals 1.
Update: Rodriguez couldn't come through in the fourth to tie the game. With runners on the corners after Ryan Zimmerman's leadoff walk and Espinosa's two-out single, Rodriguez struck out swinging to end the threat.
