The Nationals and Cubs are in the top of the sixth inning at Wrigley Field, and Ross Detwiler is treading water again. He's pitched out of some jams, but he's given up seven hits, and surrendered two homers, including a solo shot for Reed Johnson in the bottom of the fifth.
It's 4-2 Cubs, and Detwiler, who pitched five innings last Thursday against the Rockies, has already thrown 84 pitches in five innings tonight. He's having another start where he just can't seem to get over the hump, and for the left-hander, there seem to be more of those than there are outings where he looks like the No. 6 overall pick in the draft in 2007. He's not pitching poorly, but he's not shutting teams down, either.
The Cubs had a 3-1 lead through five innings, but Jayson Werth just homered into the left field seats off Rodrigo Lopez, who is leaving the game.
