HAGERSTOWN, Md. - Hello from Municipal Stadium, where Stephen Strasburg will pitch in a game today for the first time since Aug. 21, 2010, when he tore the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. After having Tommy John surgery last Sept. 3, Strasburg begins a month-long rehab that should have him back at Nationals Park early next month, if all goes well.
Strasburg is only scheduled to throw an inning or two today for Single-A Hagerstown, but the spectacle of his return to a mound figures to far exceed the actual substance of what happens here today. The Suns have only a couple thousand general admission seats left for the game, and ESPN is among the media outlets credentialed for the game.
It's pouring at the moment, but the weather looks like it will taper off in time to get the game in (first pitch is scheduled for 4:05 p.m.). I'll have a running blog of Strasburg's outing, so check back for more throughout the afternoon.
