Martis tosses no-hitter for Harrisburg

Right-hander Shairon Martis threw a no-hitter for Double-A Harrisburg in the first game of a doubleheader at New Hampshire on Friday night. The Senators won 3-0 as Martis worked seven innings, walked one and struck out nine, improving his record to 8-5 and lowering his ERA to 2.81.

Catcher Derek Norris had an RBI single in the first and solo homers by Chris Rahl in the second and Tyler Moore in the seventh backed Martis' gem. It's the third no-hitter in Harrisburg history, but not the first in Martis' career.

As a 19-year-old, Martis tossed a seven-inning no-no on March 10, 2006 while pitching for the Netherlands against Panama in the World Baseball Classic. He hasn't pitched in the majors since 2009, when he went 5-3 with a 5.25 ERA in 15 starts for the Nationals.

Here is the box score.
