Sloppy defense has Nats in 8-3 hole

Sloppy defense has defined the Nationals tonight. Danny Espinosa's error in the first inning, Ian Desmond's throw that pulled Michael Morse off the base in the third inning and Morse's fielding error in the sixth. All of the errors have led to runs for the Phillies, who lead 8-3.

Collin Balester has gone three innings and allowed one unearned run, mostly shutting down the Phillies' offense.

The Nats have showed some fight, scoring one run in the sixth inning on a Morse single. Ryan Zimmerman, who scored the third run, hit a single and went to second on a Roy Oswalt wild pitch.

The Nationals and Phillies are now in the late innings.
