So Washington is 4-18 and will likely be 4-19 after Detroit gets revenge tonight in Auburn Hills and the future looks as foggy as the L.A. horizon. The Wizards will have to struggle to get to 20 wins this year in my eyes.
They don't play defense, they allow more points per game than every club in the league, with the exception of the Knicks, Warriors and Kings, all with better records I might add. You would be hard pressed to find a more unproductive bench in the NBA and most of the roster is locked up in overinflated contracts for the next year. Granted Gilbert and Brendan are hurt, but how many more wins would this team have? Maybe 4 or 5?
So what do we do as Wizards fans? NBA LOTTERY BABY!!! Next June is when this team starts to rebuild and Michael Jordan isnt here to wreck it.
The Wiz right now own the 3rd worst record in the league and have about a 16% chance of getting the top pick. Oklahoma City and Minnesota are running neck and neck for that honor, but let's assume the Wiz don't go on some miracle run and they stay where they are. Who do u want?
Blake Griffin will be gone. He will go first, but then it's your call. James Harden from ASU is legit, a 6'5 shooting guard who can score at will, but this team doesnt need that. Brandon Jennings and Ricky Rubio are probably the best points out there, but where is Gil gonna play, he's not a pure shooting guard. He needs the ball in his hands.
The Wiz need Hasheem Thabeet....never heard of him? Well he is the best center in the country. He plays at UCONN and he's 7'3 and about 270 pounds. Strong, athletic, a good runner for his size. A little raw offensively, but he is a late bloomer. He is pulling down 12 boards and swatting about four away in the best conference in the country. He is exactly what this team needs if available. Forget the best player available theory or drafting another scorer. Thabeet is the guy.
I realize it is early and a lot has to happen before June, but the point is, this team will never compete with the Celts, Cavs or Magic without a bonified defensive presence, which they haven't had in years. Once this team starts to play defense the way those other teams do we may be talking about a contender, but until then.......LETS CO CAPS!
