A little late to go against my picks to score enough cash to put some sweet gifts under the Christmas tree, but you can pocket enough dough to spring for a couple of nice bottles of booze for your New Year's Eve party!
Pittsburgh -14 vs. Carolina - What an ugly primetime game for the NFL Network tonight. But it's an NFL game during the week, so don't act like you won't watch it. Fourteen is a heavy number to lay, but the Steelers need a win to get closer to securing an AFC North title and first-round playoff bye. The Panthers are miserable, and at 2-12 on the 2010 season appear to be in the driver's seat for the #1 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. Carolina is 0-6 on the road this season; look for that to go to 0-7 with a lopsided loss at Heinz Field tonight. STEELERS 31 PANTHERS 13
Poinsettia Bowl - Navy vs. San Diego State - Under 60 points - I know the Navy offense is prolific, with 31 points being their lowest output in their last four games. But San Diego State has a pretty stout rushing defense, holding four opponents to 90 yards rushing or less this season. Throw in the fact that the San Diego area has been pounded by rainfall over the past week, with the playing surface under 10 inches of rain as of yesterday, and the field conditions should hinder both offenses. Look for a sloppy affair in San Diego, with Navy squeaking out the victory. NAVY 24 SAN DIEGO STATE 16
Redskins at Jaguars - Over 46 points - Rex Grossman took over for Donovan McNabb last week at QB for the Washington Redskins, and produced monster stats in the 33-30 loss to the Dallas Cowboys: 322 passing yards and 4 touchdowns. Trust me, I was dumbfounded by that performance. This week, Grossman and the Skins get to face another woeful defense in Jacksonville; the Jags allow 255 passing yards per game, 27th in the NFL. The Jags desperately need a win to keep pace with the Colts in the AFC South, so we could be looking at a potential shootout in the making. Can't believe I'm picking the Skins in an over, but that's the deal. JAGUARS 31 REDSKINS 23
