CINCINNATI - The Nationals arrive in Cincinnati off to another fast start on a long road trip.
Last month, the Nationals started a 10-game road trip 5-1 through St. Louis and Kansas City.
This time, they swept the Phillies. As they arrive at Great American Ball Park, they stand 3-0 at the beginning of a nine-game, three-city, 11-game road trip.
The club made one change to the roster for the weekend. Nats No. 2 prospect infielder Trea Turner has been recalled from Triple-A Syracuse because Ryan Zimmerman is taking leave to be with his wife, Heather, who gave birth to their second daughter Thursday.
Left-hander Gio Gonzalez (3-3, 3.57 ERA) gets the call for the Nationals. Gonzalez has struggled his last two outings, giving up 13 runs and 16 hits in 9 2/3 innings. But he has a 1.83 ERA in six career starts against the Reds. His mark of 1.73 ERA against the Dodgers is the only lower mark on his record vs. National League squads. He has allowed two earned runs or more only once in those six career games against Cincinnati.
Left-hander Brandon Finnegan (1-4, 4.14) goes to the bump for the Reds, who have won two in a row despite being only 12-15 at home. Finnegan was a 2014 first-round selection by the Kansas City Royals. He has made one start vs. the Nationals, suffering the loss with a 5.40 ERA. In that game, he allowed three runs in five innings on eight hits.
