Orioles and White Sox lineups (and notes)

CHICAGO – The Orioles waited to post their lineup until checking Rougned Odor’s back.

Odor worked out on the field and remained on the bench for the fifth game in a row - the last four due to injury.

Richie Martin is the second baseman and Jonathan Araúz is the third baseman, with Tyler Nevin among the reserves.

Trey Mancini stays in the lineup after being hit on his left hand yesterday. X-rays were negative.

Jordan Lyles has a 4.92 ERA and 1.500 WHIP in 14 starts. He held the Nationals to two runs over 6 1/3 innings in his last appearance after going four consecutive starts without reaching the sixth.

Lyles owns a 5.74 ERA and 1.787 WHIP in five career games (three starts) against the White Sox. He’s allowed 10 earned runs (11 total) and 20 hits in 15 2/3 innings.

Yasmani Grandal is 9-for-25 with three doubles, a home run and seven walks lifetime against Lyles, but he’s on the injured list with a hamstring strain.

Josh Harrison is 8-for-16 with a double, but he hasn’t played since being hit on the right triceps in Thursday’s game.

The Orioles are 22-8 when scoring first. They’ve allowed just one hit with runners in scoring position in 17 opportunities in the White Sox series.

A victory today for the Orioles assures their first winning month since August 2017, and their first four-game sweep at Guaranteed Rate Field since 1995.

They could post their first five-game winning streak since August 2020 and move four games below .500 for the first time since May 12 in St. Louis.

The last time that the Orioles swept a four-game series was July 17-20, 2017 versus the Rangers. Their last four-game sweep on the road was Aug. 22-25, 2011 in Minnesota.

Orioles pitchers have crafted a 0.55 ERA, with two earned runs in 33 innings, during the four-game streak, the first time holding opponents to two earned runs or fewer in that span since June 5-8, 2016.

Right-hander Dylan Cease has a 2.68 ERA and 1.284 WHIP in 14 starts. He’s walked 36 batters in 74 innings, most in the American League, but also struck out 108. Cease has allowed only five home runs.

Cease has faced the Orioles twice and surrendered three runs with 16 strikeouts in 11 innings.
