Orioles executive vice president Dan Duquette indicated today that he still hopes to add a starting pitcher before the Aug. 1 non-waiver trade deadline. However, he also noted how it's a thin market that increases the challenge of upgrading the rotation.
Duquette's focus remains on the rotation ahead of the bullpen and outfield despite injuries to Hyun Soo Kim and Joey Rickard. The latter appears to be headed to the disabled list.
Dariel Alvarez would be recalled to take Rickard's spot on...
Manager Dusty Baker announced that left-hander Sammy Solis will begin his rehab assignment and pitch tonight and tomorrow night for high Single-A Potomac as he recovers from right knee inflammation. He has been on the disabled list retroactive to July 8.
First baseman Ryan Zimmerman will be the designated hitter tonight for Potomac as he continues his rehab assignment. Last night, he had a single, a double and a run scored in the P-Nats' 4-2 win.
"He told me that he felt good," Baker said of...
The Orioles are waiting for the results of the MRI on Joey Rickard's right thumb. However, they're braced for the worst and already have a player ready in case it's a disabled list situation.
It sounds ominous for Rickard, who hurt the thumb Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium while trying to catch Brett Gardner's leadoff triple in the first inning. He stayed in the game, but wasn't available yesterday.
The Virginian-Pilot reported that Dariel Alvarez wasn't at Triple-A Norfolk today for...
Adam Jones is in center field tonight, but the Orioles' lineup is missing Matt Wieters (foot) and Joey Rickard (thumb).
Rickard had an MRI on his thumb and the Orioles are waiting for the results. Julio Borbon is starting in left field.
Dylan Bundy makes his second major league start and his first in Baltimore. He threw 70 pitches in 3 1/3 innings at Tropicana field this past Sunday and served up three home runs.
Bundy threw 1 1/3 scoreless relief innings on May 27 in Cleveland to pick up his...
The Orioles return home tonight to start a six-game homestand. The Cleveland Indians are in town first for a three-game series. The Colorado Rockies follow Cleveland to Camden Yards.
At 54-40, the Orioles trail Boston by a ½ game for first place in the American League East. At 56-38, Cleveland owns the best record in the AL and leads the Central by seven games over Detroit.
The Indians have a 30-14 record (.682) and team ERA of 3.19 since June 1. Cleveland went 22-6 (.786) in June, when the...
The Nationals welcome in the Padres to D.C., searching to get back on track after losing three of their last four games.
Washington split four games with San Diego earlier this season, winning the first two from June 16-19 at Petco Park. Five Nationals players, including Stephen Strasburg and Daniel Murphy, were invited to last week's All-Star Game in San Diego.
Murphy has hit in eight straight games, hitting 12-for-30 (.400) with five doubles, four homers, 13 RBIs and six runs scored. He...
Hey, O's fans. Welcome to this week's edition of Yard Work. In today's episode....
The Orioles return home from their first road trip since the All-Star break. It wasn't the smoothest of journeys, however. After taking two of three from the Rays in Tampa Bay, the Orioles lost a four-game series against the Yankees in the Bronx, and were just a Chris Tillman gem shy of being swept by their divisional rival. Oddly enough, it was the team's offense that sputtered out of the gate. The Orioles...
Late in Sunday's 18-inning series finale with the Pittsburgh Pirates, with the game tied up at 1-1, Washington Nationals infielder Trea Turner hit a line drive leadoff single to left and tried to turn it into a double.
Turner was thrown out at second by left fielder Starling Marte in spite of the fact that the Pirates outfielder made a fairly nonchalant play and throw into second.
"Turner was cursed by his own speed," Dusty Baker told reporters after what ended up a 2-1 loss.
"If he didn't...
First baseman Ryan Zimmerman completed his first rehab assignment in high Single-A Potomac's 4-2 win over Winston-Salem.
Zimmerman went 2-for-4 with a single, double and run scored while playing seven innings at first base. After a single in the first, Zimmerman doubled in the fifth and scored on a Alec Keller single.
Zimmerman is expected to be with Potomac through Saturday's game. Nats manager Dusty Baker is hoping to have Zimmerman to return to play in Cleveland on Tuesday. He is...
Zach Britton is a perfect 30-for-30 in save situations in 2016 after closing things out in the Bronx on Thursday afternoon. He joins Gregg Olson as the only Orioles relievers with three seasons of 30 or more saves. The current O's closer is justifying the T-shirt worthy play on words, "Great Britton" (hat tip: OBP Apparel).
This is the fifth consecutive year that the Orioles have had a closer with 30 or more saves, which marks the longest such run in team history. Britton is putting an...
