The Orioles have signed two more draft picks, left-handers Yelin Rodriguez (20th round) and Tyler Erwin (23rd), raising their total to 25.
Still no agreement with seventh-rounder Preston Palmeiro, son of former Orioles first baseman Rafael Palmeiro.
Darren O'Day felt good after throwing off a half-mound yesterday and will throw a regular bullpen session on Saturday.
Vance Worley will follow Jason Garcia to the mound Saturday night at Double-A Bowie.
Caleb Joseph could join the Orioles in San...
MILWAUKEE - The Nationals continue their 10-game road trip tonight at Miller Park, and send right-hander Max Scherzer to the mound in hopes of snapping out of a season-high five-game losing streak.
Scherzer hasn't seen a lot of the Brewers in his career, but has made three starts against them among his four appearances and carries a 1-0 record and 1.64 ERA into tonight's game. Yep, those are numbers that bring hope to a team with a black cloud circling over it.
He'll be opposed by...
Left-hander T.J. McFarland is in the Orioles' clubhouse today. He's been placed on the one-day taxi squad and can be recalled as an extra pitcher for Saturday's doubleheader.
Yovani Gallardo makes his second start tonight since coming off the disabled list, Manny Machado returns from his four-game suspension and the Orioles open a four-game series against the Rays at Camden Yards.
The tarp's off the field at Camden Yards following heavy rain earlier in the day.
Gallardo is 2-1 with a 3.06...
Felipe Rivero's recent implosion in San Diego's Petco Park was the culmination of rough stretch for the 24-year-old reliever in which he gave up 10 hits, six walks and 14 runs, 13 earned in just 5 1/3 innings pitched.
In what ended up a 7-3 loss to the Padres, Rivero took the mound with a 3-1 lead and gave up back-to-back singles, a walk and a two-run double to the first four batters he faced.
An intentional walk loaded the bases back up, but Rivero got a weak grounder back to the mound for...
The Orioles are marking the 20th anniversary of the team's first wild card entry into the playoffs by looking very much the part of that 1996 team in terms of their power at the plate as well as the struggles of their starting rotation. Two decades after winning in, spite of their pitching and slugging their way into the postseason, the Orioles are looking to repeat that effort this year. The good news is they're better positioned to do so now than they were back then.
The Orioles' current...
Wilmer Difo and Phillips Valdez shined in Thursday's Double-A Harrisburg 5-2 win over Portland.
The shortstop Difo went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two runs scored. Valdez (1-1) earned his first Double-A victory, going five innings and allowing one run on four hits with two walks and six strikeouts.
Georgia Tech right-hander Andew Robinson struck out three in three innings, allowing one run on one hit for his fifth hold. His ERA is 2.11.
Right-hander Abel de los Santos recorded his third save...
The Orioles have 25 players on their active roster for tonight's series opener against the Rays at Camden Yards.
Never take it for granted.
Manny Machado's suspension has ended, with the Orioles going 2-2 in his absence. He's back in tonight's lineup at third base. All is right with the Orioles' world.
Well, just about all of it.
Manager Buck Showalter shook his head Wednesday while noting how quickly the Orioles' disabled list grew to four players. Shortstop J.J. Hardy has returned, but...
He has come a long way to pursue his major league dream. And so far it is going quite well for 19-year-old left-handed pitcher Alexander Wells from Newcastle, Australia.
Signed by the Orioles last Aug. 29 for $300,000, Wells was the opening night starter for short season Single-A Aberdeen. So far he has pitched to an ERA of 1.64 over his first two professional starts.
Wells' twin brother Lachlan Wells is also in pro ball and was the first of the duo to sign a pro contract. The Minnesota Twins...
As far as a pro debut goes, it was a pretty solid one. The Orioles' third-round draft pick, Jacksonville University outfielder Austin Hays, had three hits last night for short season Single-A Aberdeen.
Hays showed some speed on his first pro hit, a gap shot to left-center field in the third inning that went for an RBI triple. He had a 3-for-4 night with a run, stolen base, an RBI and a couple of nice defensive plays.
It was his first game, but not his first day with Aberdeen, and already...
