Game 146 lineups: Nats vs. Braves

Fresh off a series win at the American League Central’s first-place Minnesota, the Nationals spend the weekend back home for a quick three-game set against the National League East first-place Atlanta Braves before heading out Monday to St. Louis and then Miami.

The Nats took down the Twins 12-6 to stay 3 1/2 games in front of the Cubs and the Brewers for home field advantage in the National League wild card game. Their magic number is 14 to clinch the wild card spot.

The only win in that series was Scherzer last Sunday, 9-4. He opposes right-hander Mike Soroka (11-4, 2.67) again for the second time in as many starts.

Scherzer pitched six innings, allowing one run on two hits with two walks and nine strikeouts. Soroka also went six innings, but allowed four runs on seven hits with one walk and seven strikeouts.

The Nationals hit four homers Thursday night, now up to a total of 212 on the season. The franchise record in 215 from the 2017 campaign. The 212 round trippers ranked sixth in the NL. The Dodgers lead the way with 259 homers this season. The Nats have nine players with at least 13 homers, most in the National League and tied for most in Major League Baseball.

The Nats trail the season series to the Braves, 9-7, and are 8 1/2 games back in the NL East.
