Last week, former Nationals starter Tanner Roark got a deal with the Toronto Blue Jays for two years, worth $24 million. He has pitched for the Reds and the A’s. Reliever Blake Treinen has a one-year contract with the L.A. Dodgers for $10 million.
This week, southpaw Fernando Abad returned to the Nats on a minor league deal and an offer to head to West Palm Beach, Fla., for 2020 spring training. Meanwhile, Gio Gonzalez is moving to the Chicago White Sox. He joins former Nats Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo López in the Pale Hose starting lineup.
Here is a list of familiar free agents who formerly played for the Nats:
RHP Tyler Clippard (Indians)
RHP Edwin Jackson (Tigers)
LHP Ross Detwiler (White Sox)
RHP Tanner Roark (Reds/A’s), (new team: Blue Jays)
LHP Tommy Milone (Mariners)
RHP Shawn Kelley (Rangers)
Detwiler has agreed to a minor league deal to return to the White Sox. Kelley got a $250,000 buyout when the Rangers declined their club option.
LHP Jerry Blevins (Braves)
RHP Matt Albers (Brewers)
LHP Gio Gonzalez (Brewers), (new team: White Sox)
C Matt Wieters (Cardinals)
RHP Brandon Kintzler (Cubs)
OF Steven Souza Jr. (Diamondbacks)
LHP Rich Hill (Dodgers)
RHP Kyle Barraclough (Giants)
LHP Fernando Abad (Giants), (new team: Nats)
RHP Craig Stammen (Padres)
The Cardinals are looking to re-sign Wieters to another one-year deal. Souza is getting interest from a handful of teams. Stammen’s 0.8 2019 WAR (8.6 career WAR) also has teams very interested. Hill will not be back until June or July 2020 after surgery. Barraclough elected free agency after being designated for assignment.
