In 2013, the switch-hitter batted .267/.333/.443 (68-255) with nine homers and 46 RBI in 65 games for Triple-A Columbus and appeared in four games for Cleveland, where he was hitless in nine at-bats.
In his six minor league campaigns in the Indians organization, Phelps batted .283/.370/.439 (623-2201) with 53 homers and 300 RBI in 582 games. He was originally selected by the Indians in the third round of the 2008 First Year Player Draft out of Stanford University.
With this move, the Orioles now have 38 players on the 40-man roster.
