Game 72 lineups: Nats vs. Phillies

The last time the Phillies were in D.C., the story was all Bryce Harper all the time. Harper’s first series at Nationals Park as a visiting player was a major event, and the negative reception he got from Nats fans made for quite a scene.

Now as Harper returns for the second of three trips to Washington this season, the focus seemingly has shifted away from the slugger and toward these two teams as a whole. This is a big series, no matter Harper’s presence. Fans may continue to boo him, but they’re more interested in cheering a win for the home team than anything.

The Nationals, who have won 14 of 21, are playing better baseball than the Phillies, who have lost 10 of 16. But to keep that trend up, they’ll need Patrick Corbin to get himself back on track after three consecutive subpar starts. Corbin has been working in the bullpen on his mechanics, hoping to find the formula that gets his fastball command back.

Eaton-Hits-White-Day-Sidebar.jpgThe Nats lineup, which exploded for 15 runs Sunday against a hodgepodge of Diamondbacks pitchers, faces a tougher challenge tonight in Jake Arrieta, though the veteran right-hander has a 5.31 ERA over his last seven starts.

Corbin will bat eighth (the first time the Nationals pitcher has batted eighth since May 19).
