Game 8 lineups: Nats vs. Mets

The 2020 Major League Baseball season is now 19 days old, and for the first time the Nationals are playing a division opponent. Add that to the list of strange facts about this strange season.

Turner-Throws-Blue-WS-G2-Sidebar.jpgAfter three games with the Yankees and four games with the Blue Jays (followed by three postponed games with the Marlins) the Nats finally face the Mets tonight in the opener of a two-game series between National League East rivals. The Nationals haven’t played in five days. The Mets just snapped a five-game losing streak last night in Atlanta.

The good news: Juan Soto is back on the active roster for the first time this season. The bad news: He’s not in the lineup. According to Davey Martinez, Soto (who has only been on the field for workouts nine of the last 31 days and only returned this most recent time from quarantine Saturday) said he still needs a little more time to get into full, game shape. He will be available to pinch-hit tonight.

To make room on the 30-man roster for Soto, the Nationals optioned fellow outfielder Andrew Stevenson to the alternate training site in Fredericksburg. They also activated reliever Wander Suero from the injured list; he’ll take the spot that opened up when Will Harris went on the injured list over the weekend.

Patrick Corbin gets the start against a Mets club that has been ravaged quite a bit. Yoenis Céspedes opted out of the season (in dramatic fashion) Sunday, but they were also still waiting for MRI results this afternoon on Robinson Canó, Jeff McNeil and Amed Rosario before posting their lineup.
