Game 24 lineups: Nats vs. Marlins

The Nationals have already secured their first three-game winning streak of the season. Now they’ve got a chance to secure their first three-game sweep of the season.

Scherzer-Delivers-Gray-Camden-Yards-Sidebar.jpgHaving taken the first two games of the weekend against the Marlins, the Nats will look to finish the job this afternoon, with Max Scherzer on the mound looking to rebound from a ragged start against the Blue Jays in Dunedin, Fla. How often has he struggled in back-to-back starts? Hardly ever. Eight times since he signed with the Nationals, Scherzer gave up six or more runs in a start. And in six of his subsequent starts, he allowed three or fewer runs. Of course you never know for sure, but history suggests the right-hander will be just fine today.

The Nationals have slowly been looking better at the plate in recent days, including Saturday’s seven-run explosion against the Marlins staff. They face a tougher challenge today in left-hander Trevor Rogers, though, who is off to a 3-1start to his season with a 1.29 ERA.

With a lefty on the mound, manager Davey Martinez is going with a very right-handed-heavy lineup. That includes Victor Robles in the leadoff spot for the first time in a while, Josh Harrison in left field for the first time this season, Ryan Zimmerman at first base and Jordy Mercer at second base. In fact, the only left-handed hitter in today’s lineup is Yadiel Hernandez, who was bumped down to the seventh spot.
