District 34 podcast: Episode 2

Daniel Murphy, come on down to claim your award!

Murphy was named the National League Player of the Month, the second consecutive month a Nationals player has been awarded the honor after Bryce Harper was named the NL's best in April.

Murphy-Werth-Celebrate-White-Sidebar.jpgAfter slashing .416/.424/.673 with seven home runs, 23 RBIs and a new Nats record for hits in a month of 47, Byron Kerr and I figured Murphy would win, so we went ahead and discussed Murphy's May in this week's episode of District 34.

With the calendar turning to June, we've also reached the one-third point of the season, so wrap up the first two months of the season, we give out our own awards for the Nats so far, inluding Most Valuable Player, Most Valuable Pitcher, Most Improved and Biggest Surprise. Byron and I didn't always agree on these awards, but as he points out in the episode, that's probably better for the podcast.

Finally, Byron heads out for Cincinnati as the Nationals continue their road trip at Great American Ballpark. We'll preview the three-game series against the Reds and Dusty Baker's return to face another of his former clubs that he's managed.

Enjoy this week's edition of District 34!

Note: The District 34 podcast will be recorded each week; therefore, all Nationals records and statistics will be current at the time of recording, but may be different when the episode is downloaded.
