Game 143 lineups: Nats vs. Phillies

Few members of the Nationals roster are going to be under the microscope more over the season's final three weeks than Gio Gonzalez, who (in the wake of Stephen Strasburg's injury) is going to be asked to step up and assume a prominent role in a likely postseason rotation. A strong outing today against the Phillies would be an encouraging development.

The Nationals lineup, meanwhile, will hope to score some runs prior to the bottom of the eighth today. They'll be trying to do more damage against left-hander Adam Morgan, who held them to two runs and three hits in 6 2/3 innings (albeit in a loss) two weeks ago in Philadelphia.

Today, of course, is Sept. 11, and so there will be tributes before and during the game. I've written it many times before, but it always bears repeating that baseball played a critical role for so many in the aftermath of 9/11. Despite our differences in so many different ways, this sport has always brought us together in both good and bad times, as it will again today.
