Nationals announce roster moves

The Washington Nationals announced the following roster moves Wednesday. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcements:

·       Recalled left-handed pitcher Sam Clay from Triple-A Rochester

·       Recalled left-handed pitcher Francisco Pérez from Triple-A Rochester

·       Placed left-handed pitcher Sean Doolittle on the 10-day Injured List with a left elbow sprain

·       Optioned outfielder Donovan Casey to Triple-A Rochester

Clay, 28, appeared in five games for Triple-A Rochester prior to being recalled. He went 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA (0 ER/5.2 IP) with six strikeouts, three walks and allowed four hits 

Clay made his Major League Debut with Washington on April 7, 2021 after seven seasons in Minnesota’s Minor League system. He ranked among Nationals relievers in games (2nd, 58) and holds (T2nd, 13).

Pérez, 24, pitched to a 0.00 ERA (0 ER/5.0 IP) with seven strikeouts, one walk and five hits allowed in five appearances with Triple-A Rochester. He was recalled to serve as the 29th man for the Nationals in a doubleheader against Arizona on April 19 but did not appear in a game.

 

Doolittle, 35, posted a 0.00 ERA in six games out of Washington’s bullpen.

 

Casey, 26, was recalled on April 16 and did not appear in any games.
