Nationals recall Joe Ross

The Washington Nationals recalled right-handed pitcher Joe Ross from Triple-A Fresno and optioned infielder Adrián Sanchez to Double-A Harrisburg on Sunday. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.

Ross, 25, is called upon for his first Major League assignment of 2019. He was optioned to Triple-A Fresno on March 23, but did not appear in a game prior to his recall. Ross went 1-0 with a 4.02 ERA in seven Spring Training outings, two of which were starts.

In Sept. 2018, Ross returned to the mound after rehabbing from "Tommy John" ligament replacement surgery in July 2017. He began his rehab outings on Aug. 6, returned to the active roster on Sept. 4 and made his first start on Sept. 13 vs, Chicago (NL). In that start, he tossed 5.0 innings of four-hit, two-run ball. Ross eventually went 0-2 with a 5.06 ERA in three starts in 2018.

Sanchez, 28, did not appear in a game for Washington during this stint with the club.
