Nats swept in Beltway Series after blowing late lead

The Orioles jumped on Tanner Roark early. Gerardo Parra belted a leadoff double over Michael A. Taylor's head in center. And then on a full count, Manny Machado smoked a fastball back up the middle for an RBI single.

roark-pitching-white-sidebar.jpgUpdate: Orioles starter Tyler Wilson did not attempt any form of retaliation against Bryce Harper or any other member of the Nationals as he went through their lineup the first time.

Harper drew a walk in his first at-bat, his sixth free pass of the series.

Matt Wieters lined a single to right to start the fourth. Jonathan Schoop followed with a two-run blast to deep center off Roark.

Update II: Wilson Ramos singled to start the fifth, bringing Trea Turner to the plate to pinch-hit for Roark. Turner ripped his first major league double down the left field line giving the Nats second and third with no outs.

Anthony Rendon followed with a sacrifice fly, scoring Ramos. Yunel Escobar then plated Turner on a single to left.

Roark allowed three runs on five hits with two walks and one strikeout over five innings.

Right-hander Joe Ross pitched a perfect sixth inning in relief of Roark.

Update III: Ramos unloaded on right-hander Chaz Roe's fastball, sending it soaring high into the seats in left for a solo homer with one out in the seventh.

Roe then left after walking Matt den Dekker. Right-hander Mike Wright came on and quickly yielded a single to Rendon.

Escobar then smoked a double, scoring den Dekker, but Rendon was nailed at plate.

The Orioles answered right back with a two-run homer off right-hander Blake Treinen in the eighth.

Update IV: Orioles right-hander Darren O'Day finished off the Nats in the ninth with Harper grounding out to end the game.

The Orioles beat the Nationals 5-4, completing the three-game sweep.
