#TBT to "Nationals Classics": Subduing the Braves, rewriting history

We're getting tantalizingly close to baseball again. The calendar will soon turn a page to February, which means the crack of the bat meeting a ball and the sound of a ball popping in a mitt will be heard soon. Very soon.

But before we get to utter those four glorious words - pitchers and catchers report - we've got a few more memories to relive via "Nationals Classics" on MASN.

This week's offerings may be few, but they're fun. You'll see two games in which the Nats beat the Braves in extra innings - and who doesn't like beating the Braves? - and another where Jordan Zimmermann permanently etched his name in baseball's annals.

Enjoy this week's "Nationals Classics" - spring training is right around the corner!

Friday, Feb. 1, 7 p.m. - Locked in a 2-2 tie on Sept. 5, 2015 at Nationals Park, the home team sent Michael A. Taylor up as a pinch-hitter with two men on in the 10th inning. Batting for Jonathan Papelbon, Taylor ripped Brandon Cunniff's second pitch over the fence in left-center for a game-winning, three-run walk-off homer.

Sunday, Feb. 3, 7 p.m. - Go ahead, let the rest of America watch that final football game of the season. If the gridiron isn't your cup of tea, how about the first no-hitter in Nationals history? On the final day of the 2014 season, Zimmermann became the first Nats pitcher to spin a no-no, a fifth-inning walk to Justin Bour the only blemish on his day. An amazing grab by defensive replacement Steven Souza Jr. was the game's final out and started a memorable celebration. Few 1-0 games offered such defining moments and iconic images.

Tuesday, Feb. 5, 11 a.m. - On Oct. 4, 2009 - another season finale - the Nats and Braves needed 15 innings to settle things at Turner Field. Alberto González drove in the decisive run in a 2-1 Nationals victory, scoring Elijah Dukes with a single to left-center and making a winner out of Logan Kensing.
