Wednesday's games postponed, makeups on June 18

So much for the Nationals and Yankees trying to play 1 1/3 games tonight.

Despite hopes of completing the final three innings of Tuesday's suspended game at 5:05 p.m., then proceeding with their regularly scheduled game at 7:05 p.m., all baseball for the evening was postponed due to the forecast of continued rain throughout the rest of the day.

According to a message posted on the scoreboard at Nationals Park and read by the public address announcer, the games will be made up on June 18, with the completion of the suspended game again set to begin at 5:05 p.m., with the full second game starting 30 minutes after the suspensed game has been completed.

Fans were instructed to "please hold on to your ticket," with further details still to come.

Nats-Park-Skittles-Tarp-Sidebar.jpgThe Nationals and Yankees were knotted at 3-3 in the middle of the sixth inning last night when the tarp was pulled over the infield and fans were sent to the concourse as an intense storm swept through the area. That made it an officially suspended game, and the teams announced plans to resume it at 5:05 p.m. today, then play the series finale as originally planned at 7:05 p.m.

Both teams gathered at Nationals Park this afternoon and prepared as though they were going to be able to play, though the forecast loomed all along.

Approximately one hour before the scheduled resumption of the suspended game, the announcement was posted on the scoreboard, though only a handful of fans were inside the park at the time.

The June 18 makeup comes on a common off-day for both teams, with the Nationals returning home following a trip to New York (where they'll face the Yankees for two games) and Toronto (where they'll face the Blue Jays for three games). The Yankees will make a one-day trip to Washington in between home series against the Rays and Mariners.
