Tom Davis to receive John F. Steadman Lifetime Achievement Award from Maryland State Athletic Hall of Fame

MASN broadcaster Tom Davis will receive the John F. Steadman Lifetime Achievement Award at the Maryland State Athletic Hall of Fame banquet on Nov. 7 at Martin’s West.

Davis, 71, and the late Jim Margraff, longtime football coach at Johns Hopkins University, will be honored with the award named for John F. Steadman, a longtime sports editor and columnist for the Baltimore News American and columnist for The Evening Sun and The Baltimore Sun.

They will be joined at the ceremony by five new members of the Maryland State Athletic Hall of Fame: Mark Teixeira (baseball), Stephen Krulewitz (tennis), Ali Andrzejewski (soccer), Rob Shek (lacrosse) and Walt Williams (basketball).

The 2019 induction class was announced this morning in a ceremony at the Babe Ruth Birthplace and Museum.

Davis-Interviews-Elias-Sidebar.jpgDavis is in his 49th year as a broadcaster and his fourth season as a co-host of the “O’s Xtra” pregame and postgame shows on MASN. He has also hosted “The Mid-Atlantic Sports Report” on MASN since 2011 and previously spent 17 seasons hosting Orioles telecasts on Home Team Sports.

A five-time winner of the Maryland Sportscaster of the Year Award, Davis began his career in the 1970s as a weekend sportscaster at WBAL-TV. He also had stints at WCBM-AM and WBAL-AM, and spent 17 years on the popular “Rouse and Co.” morning show on WQSR-FM.

Davis’ national experience includes work for NBC and NBC Radio, where he covered the NFL, the 1987 Gator Bowl and and 1988 Summer Olympics. He also did play-by-play for college football and bowl games on the Mutual Radio Network and was a sideline reporter for ABC’s coverage of the United States Football League in 1983-84.

In addition to Orioles broadcasts, Davis hosts a variety of shows on MASN, including “Wall to Wall Baseball,” “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” and “Touchdown Baltimore.”

Davis graduated from Calvert Hall College High School and received a bachelor’s degree in marketing from the University of Baltimore.
