A look at the O's minor league affiliates so far

The Orioles' four full-season minor league affiliates are a combined 21-33 to date. Triple-A Norfolk is 4-9, Double-A Bowie 5-8, high Single-A Frederick 5-9 and Single-A Delmarva 7-7.

Norfolk had scored just 31 runs in its first 11 games and then the Tides burst out in a big way during Tuesday's 20-4 win at Charlotte. The 20 runs were the most a Tides club has scored as an Orioles affiliate and were the most for the franchise since Tidewater won at Rochester 23-1 on opening day of the 1982 season.

The 20-run plateau has only been reached seven times by an International League club since 2007, most recently by Toledo in a 20-8 win at Louisville on April 13, 2014. Norfolk raised its team average 25 points in that win, upping it from .234 to .259.

Bowie's Trey Mancini had two more hits last night and is batting .319 with five homers, 10 RBIs and an OPS of 1.172. He is second in the Eastern League in homers, third in slugging (.723), fifth in on-base percentage (.448) and first with 15 runs scored.

Frederick outfielder Jay Gonzalez is off to a very solid start. He is batting .314 with three doubles, two triples, five RBIs and is 10-for-10 stealing bases. Last year, Gonzalez led all O's minor leaguers with 34 steals. Gonzalez is a 10th-round pick in 2014 from the University of Mount Olive. He also has nine walks for an OBP of .417 and is 9-for-20 during his current five-game hitting streak.

Delmarva had one hit last night. And won. After the first 15 Shorebirds were retired in order, they scored three runs in the sixth. The first run scored on a wild pitch and then Alex Murphy delivered a two-run single. The Calvert Hall product has 13 RBIs, which is tied for the South Atlantic League lead.

On the mound, Francisco Jimenez pitched six scoreless innings of three-hit ball to get the win and is 1-1 with an ERA of 3.00. Patrick Baker went three innings with five strikeouts to get his first save.
