Angels score nine in 13th, to beat Birds, 17-8

They lost a lead in the ninth inning, but not the game. The LA Angels scored nine runs on eight hits off Brian Bass and Matt Albers in the top of 13th to post a somewhat rare, extra-inning rout, 17-8. Torri Hunter's RBI single made it 9-8, then Erick Aybar's two-run single gave LA a three-run lead. Later, Juan Rivera capped the inning with a three-run homer. It was the O's longest game of the year by innings and time. Down 8-6 after seven, the O's tied the game. Matt Wieters' pinch-hit RBI single in the 8th made it 8-7 and the Orioles tied it up in the last of the ninth. Brian Roberts led off the inning with a double vs. LA closer Brian Fuentes. Roberts then stole third base. Adam Jones hit a 1-2 pitch to the wall in the left for a sac fly to tie the game that almost went for a game-winning homer. The Angels scored in three of the first four innings and led 6-2 in the fourth. After the O's rallied to tie the game, the Angels scored single runs in the 6th and 7th to move back in front. Chone Figgins was 4 for 7 with 3 RBI. His RBI single in the 6th that gave LA a 7-6 lead was his 1,000th career hit. The O's late rally took Jeremy Guthrie off the hook for his 13th loss. Guthrie allowed ten hits and seven runs over 5 2/3 innings. He has allowed five runs or more ten times this season. The Orioles hit three homers in the game. Roberts and Nick Markakis hit two-run shots and Luke Scott added a solo blast, his team-leading 20th home run. LAA.....17-23-0 Balt.......8-14-1
