Bundy headed to disabled list with ankle injury

The Orioles are placing starter Dylan Bundy on the 10-day disabled list with a left ankle injury and recalling left-hander Donnie Hart from Triple-A Norfolk. The move will be announced later today.

Bundy rolled the ankle Saturday afternoon while rounding third base at SunTrust Park. He tried to throw off flat ground this afternoon and was limping.

Bundy-Orange-ATL-sidebar.jpgManager Buck Showalter is hoping that Bundy returns on July 6 in Minnesota. He doesn't want Bundy pitching on July 4 in Philadelphia with no designated hitter.

The DL assignment can't be backdated because Hart is returning to replace an injured player and hasn't been down the minimum 10 days.

The starter for Thursday likely will come from Norfolk, though relievers Miguel Castro and Mike Wright Jr. are considerations if not used the next two nights.

Showalter dismissed the possibility of the starter coming from Double-A Bowie, so left-hander Keegan Akin won't be making his major league debut this week. Showalter also said Chris Tillman, after two injury rehab starts, needs to stay in the minors and will pitch Monday for Norfolk.

Bundy is 6-7 with a 3.75 ERA and 1.208 WHIP in 16 starts over 96 innings. He leads the club with 10 quality starts.

The Orioles will have eight relievers in their bullpen tonight.

The Orioles have signed two more selections from the 2018 First-Year Player Draft: catcher Cody Roberts (11th round) and infielder Clay Fisher (12th). The club has signed 27 selections.
