Game 101 lineups: Nats vs. Rockies (game to start at 8:45 p.m.)

The Nationals edged the Rockies 3-2 in Game 1 of today's doubleheader at Nationals Park.

The Nats are now through 100 games in the 2019 campaign, sporting a 35-15 record since May 24, and are 22-9 since May 2 at Nats Park and have swept three straight doubleheaders. Tonight they look for four in a row.

The Rockies are going in the opposite direction: 7-20 since June 21 and 3-15 since June 30.

After the first game, the Nationals optioned right-hander Erick Fedde to Triple-A Fresno and called up catcher Raudy Read. Fedde went four innings and allowed only one run, but did not factor in the decision.

Gomes-Catches-Popup-Blue-Sidebar.jpgThe move makes sense because the Nats do not need a fifth starter again until August 6 and by that time they will be in San Francisco. Read provides depth for Kurt Suzuki and Yan Gomes. But Read's stay may be short lived with Max Scherzer likely back thursday.

"It went pretty well," Fedde said. "I wish I could've given us more innings but just the situation came up where I don't swing it too well. I don't blame them going with (Gerardo) Parra. I was able to keep the game close and keep the guys in it."

In game two, the Nationals send left-hander Patrick Corbin to the hill to face the Rockies left-hander Kyle Freeland (2-7, 7.62).

Corbin has a 1.85 ERA in his last six starts with 50 strikeouts and just eight walks. The Nats are 5-1 in those starts. Corbin is 2-4 with a 4.47 era in nine career starts versus the Rockies.

Freeland is 2-0 with a 3.45 ERA against the Nats in his career over three starts. He has allowed 17 homers this season, an average of 2.3 per start, including eight on the road.

Update: The start of tonight's twinbill nightcap has been delayed due to inclement weather.

Update II: The Nationals announced tonight's game will start at approximately 8:45 p.m.
