Gary Thorne named play-by-play announcer for international broadcasts of ALCS and WS

The O's may not be battling their way through postseason play this October, but for O's fans abroad this time of year, the voice of the postseason might start to feel familiar. Gary Thorne, your very own O's play-by-play announcer on MASN, was recently given the same role to play in the international broadcasts of the 2010 ALCS and World Series. Starting today, Thorne will work together with Cy Young Award-winner Rick Sutcliffe to bring baseball fans from 219 countries and territories and more than one million US and Canadian Armed Forces personnel stationed around the world into the fray of October baseball. Thorne is no stranger to the broadcast booth in October and during other special moments of the baseball season, as he's provided play-by-play coverage for seven World Series and 13 All-Star games during his 25 years with Major League Baseball (the last four with MASN). "I am honored to help bring our national pastime to the world where the popularity of the game continues to grow," said Thorne in a statement released by MASN. "It is especially humbling to provide a voice to the games for service men and women around the world." In addition to collecting broadcasting experience with Major League Baseball, the National Hockey League, the Olympics, NCAA basketball, football and hockey, Thorne previously served as an Army JAG officer.
