Looking back, looking ahead

No reason to dwell on last night's loss. Just look forward to sweet redemption tonight against A.J. Burnett (3-0, 2.43 ERA) and tomorrow against Andy Pettitte (3-0, 2.12 ERA). Combined record against the Orioles: 36-8. What are you worried about? This just in: Randy Winn has accepted an invitation to participate in the Home Run Derby at this year's All-Star Game. I'll get over it eventually. It's just too soon. "You have to keep the ball in the ballpark from the No. 9 hitter. We didn't do that," manager Dave Trembley told reporters last night. "You have to get some runs on the board, and we didn't get enough." And you think baseball is a complicated game? I could hear CC Sabathia getting fatter when I turned up the volume on my TV, but he sure can pitch. That's a legitimate No. 1 starter. There aren't many of them in baseball, but he qualifies. Trembley must be tempted to bury Luke Scott and that .187 average on the bench, but Scott's 6-for-18 lifetime against Burnett, including two doubles, two homers, four RBIs and four walks. He'll most likely play. I wouldn't bat him higher than seventh, though. Maybe the lineup looks something like this: Jones CF Markakis RF Wieters C Tejada 3B Wigginton 2B Hughes 1B Scott DH Reimold LF Izturis SS Corey Patterson had four hits last night for Triple-A Norfolk. Josh Bell had two hits and an RBI, but he also struck out in the ninth inning to strand two runners in a 6-3 loss to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Jake Arrieta takes the mound for today's 12:15 p.m. start. Oh yeah, one more thing: Stop talking about Dez Bryant's mother.
