Mancini leading off today for first time in four years

Ryan Mountcastle returns to the Orioles’ lineup today for the series finale in Cincinnati, attempting to bust out of a 2-for-33 slump.

Trey Mancini is leading off for the 54th time in his career and the first since June 29, 2018 versus the Angels. Only Cedric Mullins and Austin Hays have led off this season.

Hays is batting fourth today and playing center field. Mullins isn’t in the lineup.

Mancini played in his 700th career game last night, the 41st player in club history to reach that mark. He’s in right field today, and 6-for-14 in his last four games.

Fifty-one of Mancin's 54 games atop the order came in 2018. He did it twice in 2017.

Adley Rutschman is batting second as the designated hitter. Tyler Nevin gets another start at third base.

Austin Voth has allowed six runs this month in 14 2/3 innings. He’s made two career relief appearances against the Reds and tossed three scoreless innings.

Last night’s 8-2 loss dropped the Orioles three games out of the final wild card spot.

The Orioles are 7-7 in rubber games.

FanGraphs.com places the Orioles’ playoff odds at 2.9 percent. The last-place Red Sox are 19.2.

Left-hander Bruce Zimmermann tossed five scoreless innings last night with Triple-A Norfolk. DL Hall is the scheduled starter today.

The Reds are starting left-hander Nick Lodolo, the 41st-overall pick by the Pirates in 2016 out of Damien (Calif.) High School, and the seventh-overall by the Reds in 2019 out of Texas Christian University. His first seven major league starts came this year and he’s registered a 4.73 ERA and 1.670 WHIP with 47 strikeouts in 32 1/3 innings.

In Lodolo’s last start, he allowed two unearned runs and struck out nine batters in six innings.

Right-handers are batting .322/.405/.504 against Lodolo and left-handers are batting .167/.348/.222. All five home runs allowed have come against right-handers.

Joey Votto’s 14 seasons with double-digit home runs are second in Reds' history behind Johnny Bench’s 15. Votto became the fifth active player to reach 3,600 total bases.
