Martin replaces Urías on Orioles roster (plus lineups and notes)

Infielder Ramón Urías was scratched from last night’s lineup with discomfort in his left side and is going on the 10-day injured list today with an oblique strain. The move is retroactive to yesterday.

Richie Martin had his contract selected from Triple-A Norfolk and is in Kansas City, where he’s starting at second base and batting ninth. He was slashing .295/.382/.442 with 13 doubles, four triples, one home run, 14 RBIs and 17 stolen bases in 19 attempts over 41 games.

Martin was on the taxi squad for the trip to St. Louis. He hasn’t played for the Orioles since Oct. 3 in Toronto.

The Orioles selected Martin’s contract today, and he fills the open spot on the 40-man roster.

Urías appeared in 49 games and batted .225/.273/.387 with 10 doubles and six home runs in 188 plate appearances. He played 38 games at third base, seven at second base and four at shortstop.

Tyler Nevin is the third baseman today.

Adley Rutschman is serving as the designated hitter before moving back behind the plate on Sunday. He doubled last night and has a hit in each of his last two starts.

Trey Mancini is in left field and Austin Hays is in right.

The Orioles don’t have a quality start in their last nine games and have lost five of their last seven. Tyler Wells will try to end the streak today.

Wells was limited to four innings and 62 pitches in his last outing. Manager Brandon Hyde wanted to ease the right-hander’s workload a bit after he worked six innings and threw a career-high 88 pitches in Boston – the rotation’s last quality start.

Today is a rematch of the May 9 game in Baltimore when Wells held the Royals to one run in six innings and earned his first major league win as a starter.

The Royals have won the first two games by a combined score of 15-6.

Left-hander Daniel Lynch, a first-round pick in 2018 out of the University of Virginia, is 2-5 with a 5.36 ERA and 1.541 WHIP in 10 starts. He started Game 2 of a May 8 doubleheader against the Orioles and allowed two earned runs (three total) with four walks and five strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings.
