Notes on Schoop and Lough, Tigers lineup

LAKELAND, Fla. - Second baseman Jonathan Schoop said he should be able to play Friday against the Rays in Sarasota after having two teeth extracted yesterday.

"I have to get a workout in today and I'm ready to go," said Schoop, who's 9-for-37 (.243) with two doubles, two home runs and six RBIs.

"I feel good. No pain, but the doctor didn't want me to run around yesterday. I think today if I run I could bleed, but I feel good. I'm thankful. I feel ready to go."

"They took only two because those were the ones that kind of hurt me during the season," he said.

"It wasn't tough because of the needle. The needle hurt a little bit, but after that I couldn't feel it any more. But after four hours, I kind of feel it a little bit, but the blood kept coming out. They had to stop it."

Schoop was limited to eating soft foods yesterday on one side of his mouth. He's taking medicine and flossing three times a day for 30 seconds.

I can't imagine that anyone needs further details.

Outfielder David Lough said his back feels much better and he hopes to return to the field later today or Friday, depending on the Orioles' athletic trainers. They determine when he's cleared for baseball activities.

Lough, who's 5-for-27 (.185), was scratched from Tuesday's lineup with back spasms.

"It's a lot better than when it first happened," Lough said, adding that he can put on his socks without experiencing any pain.

Sounds like progress to me.

The Yankees no longer are listing left-hander CC Sabathia as Saturday's starter in Tampa. They're going with right-hander Bryan Mitchell. The Orioles will start Tyler Wilson, who has allowed one run in 10 innings this spring, with one walk and nine strikeouts. Wilson was the club's minor league Pitcher of the Year in 2014.

Here's the Tigers lineup for today's game:

Rajai Davis CF
Ian Kinsler 2B
Miguel Cabrera 1B
Victor Martinez DH
J.D. Martinez RF
Yoenis Cespedes LF
Alex Avila C
Nick Castellanos 3B
Jose Iglesias SS

David Price LHP
