Inside the White Sox:

The White Sox have one of the most impressive collections of talent in the majors and will be a force to be reckoned with - in a few years, anyway. For now, Chicago is working through a series of growing pains with a young but skilled roster. While the boys on the North Side of the city are experiencing frequent trips to the postseason, the team on the South Side is searching for its first playoff appearance since 2008.

Among the regular White Sox lineup, seven guys are under 28. The young guns are led by second baseman Yoán Moncada, who is hitting .263 with 10 doubles, and designated hitter Matt Davidson. Davidson, in the midst of his second full season in the majors, leads the team with 11 home runs and 28 RBIs. To balance out the influx of youth, the White Sox feature a pair of veterans in catcher Welington Castillo and first baseman José Abreu. Castillo signed with Chicago after a successful 2017 season with Baltimore, while Abreu is on pace for his fifth straight campaign of 25 or more homers and 100 or more RBIs.

After spending the first three years of his career with the White Sox, followed by stints with the Angels and Twins, veteran Héctor Santiago is back pitching for Chicago. Santiago began the season in the White Sox bullpen, but has made three starts. He's still searching for his first win in 2018, but came just an inning away from a quality start in his most recent outing. The Orioles will see a familiar face Tuesday night as James Shields takes the bump. Shields - who spent the first seven seasons with the Rays - is 1-4 on the year, but 11-8 with a 3.90 career ERA against the Birds. While Chicago has yet to assign a starter for Wednesday's game, righty Lucas Giolito will start Thursday's series finale. Giolito was part of the blockbuster trade with the Nationals back in 2016 that sent outfielder Adam Eaton to Washington. While Eaton has been plagued by injuries, Giolito has struggled with inconsistency. He's 6-7 with the White Sox, including a 3-4 mark this season. While his ERA is high at 6.42, the 23-year-old is coming off of his best start of the season, a six-inning performance against the Rangers in which he allowed just two earned runs.

Joakim Soria handles the closing duties for the White Sox. He hasn't earned a save since April 27, though to be fair, his team hasn't exactly given him many opportunities. Still, Soria has issued runs in four of his last five outings, so look for reliever Nate Jones as a possibility to fill in.
