Orioles Acquire RHP Kevin Millwood from Texas Rangers

The Orioles today announced that they have acquired RHP KEVIN MILLWOOD and an undisclosed amount of cash from the Texas Rangers in exchange for RHP CHRIS RAY and a player to be named later. Millwood, 34, was 13-10 with a 3.67 ERA (198.2IP, 81ER) in 31 starts for Texas in 2009. Millwood's 3.67 ERA in 2009 was eighth-best among American League pitchers. In 13 major league seasons, Millwood is 155-121 with a 4.02 ERA (2,314.1IP, 1,035ER) in 383 games (375 starts). Millwood has started at least 25 games in each of the last eight seasons and made 30 or more starts in nine of the last 12 seasons. He has worked 168 or more innings in 10 of his last 12 seasons. An 11th round pick by the Atlanta Braves in 1993, Millwood was a National League All-Star in 1999 and has appeared in nine postseason games (seven starts), including the 1999 World Series. His 2.86 ERA (192.0IP, 61ER) for Cleveland in 2005 led the American League. Ray, 27, was 0-4 with a 7.27 ERA (43.1IP, 36ER) in 46 games for the Orioles in 2009. In four seasons with Baltimore, Ray went 10-17 with a 4.11 ERA (192.2, 88ER) in 191 games. He has 49 career saves and set a career-high with 33 saves in 2006.
