Orioles and Red Sox lineups

Jordan Lyles has recovered from a stomach virus and is making this afternoon’s start against the Red Sox, his first since Aug. 31 in Cleveland.

One of Lyles’ shortest outings this season came against the Red Sox on Aug. 19. He allowed four runs and nine hits in four innings, and the Orioles won 15-10.

Lyles also faced the Red Sox twice in May, allowing one run in six innings at Camden Yards and three runs and nine hits in 4 1/3 at Fenway Park. He’s made seven career starts against Boston and registered a 5.66 ERA and 1.857 WHIP in 35 innings.

Gunnar Henderson is playing third base and Jorge Mateo returns to the lineup as the shortstop.

Henderson reached base three times last night, including his two-run, tie-breaking single in the sixth inning, for the first time in his career.

Jesús Aguilar is the designated hitter. Ramón Urías is the second baseman.

Adley Rutschman’s 51 walks are the second-most in franchise history in a player’s first 90 career games, trailing Curt Blefary with 54 in 1965. He’s catching today.

The Orioles gained a half-game in the wild card race last night, trailing the Mariners by four.

They improved to 26-20 in series openers and are 19-21 in one-run games this season.

The Red Sox have lost nine of their last 11 games on the road.

Michael Wacha is 10-1 with a 2.58 ERA and 1.030 WHIP in 18 starts. He’s surrendered only 10 home runs in 101 innings.

Wacha started against the Orioles on Aug. 20 in Baltimore and shut them out over 5 2/3 innings. He was on a stricter pitch count in his second start after coming off the injured list, leaving the game at 79.

Left-handers are batting .169/.238/.292 against Wacha this season and .232/.302/.362 in his career.

Xander Bogaerts hit his 154th career home run  last night, tied with George Scott for 16th in Red Sox history since 1901. He has 23 hits over his last 11 games, tied for the most in his career in that span.

J.D. Martinez collected his 1,500th career hit.
