Orioles and Red Sox lineups (and roster moves)

BOSTON – The regular season is down to eight games for the Orioles, and they’re still 3 ½ behind the Mariners for the last wild card.

It’s more like 4 ½ because Seattle owns the tiebreaker.

The Orioles made a flurry of roster moves. They placed infielder Ramón Urías on the 10-day injured list with a right knee sprain, which ends his season, optioned relievers Joey Krehbiel and Jake Reed to Triple-A Norfolk, and recalled infielder Tyler Nevin, left-hander Keegan Akin and right-hander Beau Sulser.

Akin is replacing Urías, which enables him to be recalled this early after the Orioles optioned him on Monday.

Nevin is starting at third base tonight.

Left-hander Bruce Zimmermann and right-hander Yennier Cano have joined a taxi squad that now includes Krehbiel, Reed and catcher Cam Gallagher.

Gunnar Henderson, named today as Baseball America’s Minor League Player of the Year, is on the bench for tonight’s game. He joins Adley Rutschman, Cedric Mullins and Kyle Stowers as reserves who could enter later, after Red Sox left-hander Rich Hill is removed.

Ryan McKenna is leading off and playing center field. Jesús Aguilar is batting fourth and serving as the designated hitter. Terrin Vavra is the second baseman.

Anthony Santander is on an historic tear, hitting six home runs in his last four games. His four games with a home run from both sides of the plate ties the major league record set by the Padres’ Ken Caminiti in 1996. He’s the first Oriole with three multiple home runs games in a four-game span.

Santander joins Luke Scott and Albert Belle as the only Orioles with six homers within four games. He needs two more to tie Ken Singleton for the club’s single-season record of 35 by a switch-hitter.

Dean Kremer is coming off a complete-game shutout of the Astros that lowered his ERA to 3.07. He faced the Red Sox twice last month and allowed four runs in 5 2/3 innings at Fenway Park and one run in 5 1/3 innings at Camden Yards.

Hill has a 4.65 ERA and 1.344 WHIP in 24 starts. He’s made three starts against the Orioles and allowed six runs and 10 hits with 16 strikeouts in 13 innings. He tossed five scoreless innings with two hits and seven strikeouts on Sept. 11 in Baltimore.
