Orioles and Twins lineups

MINNEAPOLIS – Trey Mancini is out of the Orioles’ lineup tonight for the second time in three games, as they visit the Twins on the final stop of their three-city road trip.

Mancini, who has an eight-game hitting streak, didn’t play Tuesday and the Orioles were off yesterday. He went 1-for-5 with a double on Wednesday.

Anthony Santander is the designated hitter tonight, with Ryan McKenna in left field and Austin Hays in right. Adley Rutschman is batting fifth.

Jonathan Araúz gets another start at third base.

Spenser Watkins has a 5.14 ERA and 1.629 WHIP in nine starts, but he allowed only an unearned run in five innings in Chicago. He faced the Twins on May 5 at Camden Yards and surrendered three runs and seven hits in 4 2/3 innings. Byron Buxton homered.

The Orioles had the fifth-best record in the American League in June at 14-12.

Joe Ryan has made 11 starts for the Twins and posted a 3.20 ERA and 1.119 WHIP in 59 innings. He faced the Orioles on May 3 and allowed two run and six hits in 4 2/3 innings.

Sonny Gray (2.17 ERA) and left-hander Devin Smeltzer (2.88) start for the Twins in the last two games of the series. The Orioles are starting Jordan Lyles and Tyler Wells.

The Twins have lost their last two games and three of four but remain in first place in the AL Central at 43-36. They’re 23-17 at home.

The teams split a four-game series at Camden Yards, with the Orioles winning the last two.

The Twins swept the Orioles in a three-game series at Target Field in 2021. The Orioles haven’t swept three games in Minnesota since 1999.

The Orioles need two wins to secure their first season series win over Minnesota since going 5-1 in 2016. They’re attempting to snap a 10-game losing streak at Target Field since July 5, 2018, their last win coming by an 11-5 score on July 9, 2017.

Major League Baseball made a scoring change from Tuesday’s game in Seattle. In the eighth inning, Julio Rodríguez reached first base and J.P. Crawford advanced to third on what was ruled an infield single. Now it’s a missed catch error on first baseman Ryan Mountcastle, with an assist to pitcher Félix Bautista. Both runs in are unearned.
