Orioles lineup vs. Cubs (updated)

The Orioles welcome the Cubs to Camden Yards tonight for the first time in five years. A two-game series that features Kyle Bradish starting and Adley Rutschman setting the target.

Rutschman is 0-for-17 since his double in the eighth inning of a May 30 game against the Red Sox.

Bradish is 1-3 with a 6.82 ERA and 1.545 WHIP in seven starts. He’s averaging 9.5 strikeouts per nine innings.

In four starts since his 11-strikeout game in St. Louis, Bradish has allowed 17 runs and 25 hits with eight walks and 19 strikeouts in 16 innings.

Trey Mancini, who’s the designated hitter tonight, has reached base in 28 of his last 29 games since May 8 and owns a .433 OBP with 13 walks during that stretch.

Austin Hays is batting cleanup, followed by Ryan Mountcastle and Rutschman. Ramón Urías is the third baseman.

Pitcher Spenser Watkins is eligible to be activated from the injured list, but the Orioles haven't announced any roster moves today.

Cubs right-hander Keegan Thompson, a third-round draft pick out of Auburn University in 2017, is 6-0 with a 1.99 ERA and 1.081 WHIP in 12 games (four starts). He’s surrendered three home runs in 45 1/3 innings.

Former Orioles reliever Mychal Givens is 4-0 with a 3.22 ERA and 1.343 WHIP in 22 appearances. He’s averaging 12.1 strikeouts per nine innings.

Former Orioles Rule 5 pick Michael Rucker also is in Chicago’s bullpen after they returned him in March 2020. He has a 5.40 ERA and 1.440 WHIP in 11 games, with 18 strikeouts in 16 2/3 innings.

Update: The Orioles activated infielder Chris Owings from the bereavement list, a spot open on the roster after they optioned Marcos Diplán. They also claimed right-hander Austin Voth off waivers from the Nationals and designated former first-round pick Cody Sedlock for assignment.

Voth made 19 relief appearances this season and posted a 10.13 ERA and 2.143 WHIP in 18 2/3 innings. Sedlock made his major league debut May 29 and allowed five runs and six hits in three innings in Boston.

Voth isn't on the active roster tonight.
