Orioles lineup vs. Yankees

NEW YORK – The Orioles have reached the final road game of the 2022 season.

A win would make the Orioles 38-43 away from home. But the forecast today is brutal. The Yankees will make every attempt to play with a sellout crowd hoping to witness Aaron Judge’s 62nd home run.

Kyle Stowers is the designated hitter today. Terrin Vavra is playing second base.

Rookie Kyle Bradish is making his final start of the season. He’s registered a 5.11 ERA and 1.393 WHIP in 22 games.

Bradish tossed 8 2/3 scoreless innings with only two hits allowed, no walks and 10 strikeouts against the Astros on Sept. 22, but he lasted only 2 1/3 innings in Boston and was charged with seven runs.

Today marks Bradish’s first Yankee Stadium appearance. He faced New York on May 16 and allowed four runs and eight hits in 4 1/3 innings.

Jose Trevino hit a three-run homer.

The Yankees changed starters, going from Luis Severino to Chi Chi González. Severino is pushed back to Monday in Texas, a move made as a concession to the weather forecast.

González signed with the Yankees as a free agent on Aug. 30 after the Tigers released him. He’s also been with the Twins and Brewers this season.

He hasn’t pitched for New York until today. His last major league appearance was July 10 with the Brewers.

González has never faced the Orioles, who are much more familiar with Severino.

Severino has a 3.41 ERA and 1.063 WHIP in 18 starts, and he’s averaging 9.9 strikeouts per nine innings. He sustained a lat injury on July 13 and didn’t return until Sept. 21.

Severino allowed four runs in six innings against the Orioles on April 26 at Yankee Stadium, and he held them to one run and one hit – Anthony Santander’s homer - in six innings at Camden Yards on May 16.

Santander also homered off Aroldis Chapman in the ninth inning.

Severino is 7-1 with a 3.39 ERA and 0.911 WHIP in 12 games (10 starts) against the Orioles. Maybe they caught a break with the switch.

The gates will open to fans at the usual time today. We’re taking it as a good sign.
