Orioles to honor UMBC men's basketball team's historic upset on UMBC Pride Night

There's a reason why the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament is also called March Madness. Every year, the tournament is filled with crazy and unexpected upsets. Top seeds struggle to get through their own regions, No. 5 seeds dread their first-round matchups against the No. 12 seeds and national powerhouses get eliminated by mid-major schools.

Some would argue it's the best sporting event there is, and if you've been paying attention the last few weeks, you'll know that this year's edition of March Madness has been one of the best yet.

Of all the crazy upsets that happen in the tournament, one thing was for certain: No. 1 seeds would win their first-round games against the No. 16 seeds. 135-0 was the all-time first-round record for No. 1 seeds entering this year's tournament. It now stands at 138-1 thanks to the University of Maryland, Baltimore County's (UMBC) historic upset over the University of Virginia on March 16.

The UMBC Retrievers captured the nation's attention, and made Baltimore proud, as they became the first ever No. 16 seed in men's basketball to defeat a No. 1 seed (not to mention the tournament's No. 1 overall seed) with their win over Virginia in the first round of this year's NCAA Tournament.

In addition to honoring the men's basketball team that night, the Orioles will host UMBC Pride Night, the first of this season's University Pride Night series. Students, alumni and supporters of UMBC are invited to cheer on the Orioles and celebrate the Retrievers at Camden Yards. Fans who purchase a UMBC Pride Night ticket package at www.orioles.com/UMBC will receive a game ticket and an Orioles cartoon bird cap featuring UMBC's colors and a Retrievers logo on the side. UMBC Pride Night ticket packages are extremely limited and are expected to sell out, so make sure you purchase yours soon!

Friday nights are also Student Nights at Oriole Park. Any student with a valid student ID may purchase a left field upper reserve ticket for only $10 at every Friday home game, including UMBC Pride Night on April 20, during the 2018 regular season. Tickets must be purchased at the box office ticket windows at Camden Yards in advance or on the day of the game, subject to availability.

Make sure you get your tickets for this special night celebrating the Retrievers, Orioles and an historic moment in Baltimore sports and college basketball history!
