Orioles activate Fulmer and option Kline

The Orioles have made a late roster move tonight, again impacting their bullpen.

Carson Fulmer has been activated after completing the intake process. Branden Kline was optioned to the alternate camp site in Bowie as the corresponding roster move.

Fulmer has joined the team in New York, where a two-game series against the Mets begins Tuesday night. The Orioles also are playing four games against the Yankees.

Executive vice president/general manager Mike Elias claimed Fulmer, 26, on waivers from the Pirates on Saturday. Fulmer is out of minor league options and had to be added to the 28-man roster.

Fulmer made seven relief appearances this season with the Tigers and allowed five runs and eight hits with three walks and seven strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings. He spent parts of the last four seasons with the White Sox and is 6-9 with a 6.57 ERA and 1.638 WHIP in 51 games.

The Orioles will try to unlock whatever is holding back Fulmer, the eighth overall pick by the White Sox in the 2015 First-Year Player Draft out of Vanderbilt University.

Though he's made 15 starts in the majors, Fulmer is going to be used out of the bullpen this month.

Fulmer has been assigned uniform No. 60.

Kline-Throws-Black-Sidebar.jpgKline made one relief appearance after the Orioles selected his contract from the secondary camp site. He didn't allow a run in 1 2/3 innings and struck out three Yankees in Game 1 of Friday's doubleheader.

"His stuff's always been there," manager Brandon Hyde said afterward. "It's a mid-to-upper 90s fastball with a slider and split. Did a nice job against Gary Sánchez, punching him out, and then he did a really nice job the next inning, also. So he did a really nice job keeping us in the game."

Kline could return before the final game on Sept. 27. The roster doesn't stay dormant for long.
