Out of the Park: A.J.'s tailgate, football games and local college rivalries

Welcome, Birdland, to the first edition of our "Out of the Park" series! In an effort to give your thumbs a break from checking social media all day, we will be bringing you the best of what your Orioles are doing away from baseball. Check back each week for the best tweets, Instagrams and interactions from the entire Orioles family, players and personalities alike!

For this first edition, we've got O's talking about tailgates, football games and local college basketball rivalries. But let's start with center fielder Adam Jones pulling a page out of Big Sean's playbook and enjoying a well-deserved spa day.

I feel you, A.J. Everyone could use a relaxing day at the spa to refresh every now and then. Perhaps Adam was getting ready for his third annual #StayHungryPurpleTailgate on Dec. 13, an event for which he extended an invite to Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, who recently won his battle against cancer.

First off: Congrats, Gov. Hogan, on defeating cancer! That's a bigger victory than any on a baseball diamond.

Continuing with the #StayHungryPurpleTailgate, Adam also announced rapper Biz Markie as a special guest DJ and performer. But he says he's just a friend ...

Now what's a tailgate without a game to watch? Well, pitcher Kevin Gausman spent some time tailgating at LSU's football game against Arkansas, while fellow pitcher Tyler Wilson and his wife, Chelsea, attended the Lions-Packers game at Lambeau Field. Gausman must miss Baton Rouge a lot since he also attended the Tigers' men's basketball game last night.

Meanwhile, pitcher Dylan Bundy celebrated his 23rd birthday on Sunday and thanked everyone for the well wishes.

And finally, you may have heard there was a college basketball rivalry renewed on Tuesday when No. 3 Maryland defeated Georgetown in a nailbiter at College Park. It wasn't difficult to figure out who MASNsports.com's Roch Kubatko was cheering for.

Check out Roch's emoji game. Speaking of games, Steve Melewski enjoyed the Terps' win and wondered if we would get some local mid-major rivalry games with the Baltimore schools.

I agree, Steve. The more local rivalries played each year, the better for this hotbed for college hoops that is the DMV.
