Post-game Notes: NY takes series finale

Not this time - O's starter Jeremy Guthrie was on a four-start roll that ended today, as he allowed 12 hits and five runs in 5 2/3IP. Guthrie is now 10-14, 5.06. Over his previous four starts, Guthrie was 3-1, 1.33 and had allowed just 4ER over 27 innings. The O's are now 11-18 in Guthrie's 29 starts. In 12 games, 11 career starts vs. New York, Guthrie is 3-6, 4.78. The O's bullpen, which had pitched to an ERA of 7.05 over the last 14 games, really struggled today. In 2 1/3 innings, four O's hurlers gave up eight hits and eight runs (all earned). O's pitching has allowed 10 runs or more 16 times this season and 11 times it has come vs. an AL East opponent. That was a long time ago - A win today would have given the O's, not only their first three-game sweep in New York since 1986, but a winning road trip for the first time in 2009. The O's end the trip with two wins in five games and are now 24-47 on the road this season. The Yankees won the season series, 13 wins to five. The O's went 3-6 at home and 2-7 on the road this year vs. New York. The Orioles are 18-37 on the year in AL East games, including a mark of 6-23 on the road. Winning pitcher CC Sabathia gave up three runs over seven innings. He is now 17-7, 3.42 on the year and today became the AL's first 17-game winner. Sabathia, who has not taken a loss since July 28th, is now 7-0, 2.48 over his last nine starts. He improved to 4-1, 2.88 this year in five starts vs. the Orioles and is now 9-1, 2.55 in 14 career starts vs. Baltimore. The O's had won four of six before today's loss and fall to 10-12 over the past 22 games. Nolan is rollin' - Nolan Reimold went 2 for 4 with a double. Over his last ten games, he is 14 for 37 (.378) with three homers and six RBI. Brian Roberts, who had 7 RBI in the series first two games, went 0 for 3 today. Roberts has ten RBI over his last six games.
