Post-game Notes: O's lose lead and game at Toronto

On the Mark - Mark Hendrickson got the start and pitched a season-high six innings but did not get a decision. He pitched very well, allowing just four hits and two runs, throwing 68 pitches. Hendrickson, who retired the last 11 batters he faced, was seeking his first win since July 11th and his first win as a starter since April 10th. Another rough night - Struggling closer Jim Johnson suffered his third blown save tonight in his last five chances. Johnson has saved six of nine games with an ERA of 6.39 since the George Sherrill trade. Johnson has allowed 4ER over his last five innings and 9ER over his last six innings. The O's led 5-2 after seven innings and 5-4 after eight frames. They fall to 49-5 when leading after seven innings and 52-4 when leading after eight. The Baltimore bullpen gave up 4ER and seven hits over four innings. In the last four games, O's relievers have allowed 15ER and six homers in 13 innings. Over the last 24 games, the pen ERA is 6.72 The Orioles are now 4-7 in extra-inning games and Toronto improves to 6-12. Tonight was the O's first one-run game since they beat Texas 5-4 on September 5th. Historic two-bagger - Brian Roberts went 3 for 5 with two RBI. His RBI double in the 7th was his 55th double of the year. That extends his team single-season record and ties him with Lance Berkman for the Major League mark for doubles in a season by a switch-hitter. Berkman had 55 in 2001. Roberts, who has 13 RBI over his last 15 games, now has three doubles his last four games and six in his past 13 games. The O's had six doubles tonight. It's their most since setting a team record with nine on August 14th vs. Los Angeles. Still streaking - Matt Wieters went 3 for 5 with two doubles and an RBI. During a five-game hitting streak, Wieters is 11 for 21. Over his past nine games, Wieters is batting .471 (16 for 34) with two homers and 11 RBI. He is now batting .287 on the year. Felix Pie, batting just .191 over 13 games, went 2 for 4 with an RBI. He is 6 for 15 with a homer and 4 RBI over the last four games. Not tonight - For the second time this year, Nick Markakis didn't start the game and for the first time he didn't play at all in the contest. He also didn't start on June 21 at Philadelphia. Markakis is in a 4 for 38 slump and is batting just .177 over his last 17 games. Toronto has now won back-to-back games since ending a four-game losing streak. The Jays improve to 8-6 on the year vs. the O's, including a mark of 7-1 at Rogers Centre. The O's tie their season high with six losses in a row. They also lost six straight in late April and early May. The Birds are now 6-14 over their past 20 games, 24-49 on the road and 6-13 in September.
