Rendon keeps rolling (Nats win 5-1)

The Seattle Mariners scored first against Tanner Roark. But he quickly extinguished any thought of a big inning.

With one out in the first, Kyle Seager doubled to right-center field. Seager rounded first and then challenged Michael A. Taylor and was safe into second base.

Robinson Canó followed with a run-scoring single.

Roark then got Danny Valencia and Ben Gamel to strike out looking.

Trea Turner reached on a fielding error by Jean Segura. Turner stole second. Jayson Werth walked. After Bryce Harper flew out to right field, Turner moved to third. Ryan Zimmerman then flew out to deep right field to score Turner on a sacrifice fly.

Daniel Murphy doubled Werth to third. Anthony Rendon followed with a three-run shot. He has three homers and a double in his last five at-bats, totaling eight RBIs. It was his eighth homer of the season.

After one, the Nationals lead the Mariners 4-1.

Update: In the second, Taylor started off with a single. After a Roark sacrifice, Turner singled Taylor home.

Roark has allowed five hits but only one run through three innings. He has four strikeouts, including Gamel looking to end a pair of those innings.

After three innings, the Nationals lead the Mariners 5-1.

Update II: Roark was simply outstanding. He pitched seven innings and allowed one run. He scattered eight hits and walked none. He struck out eight batters, throwing 102 pitches, 67 for strikes. Seattle tried two bunts that failed. Five of the strikeouts were looking.

After six and half innings, the Nationals lead the Mariners 5-1.

Update III: Koda Glover pitches a scoreless ninth.

The Nationals defeat Seattle 5-1. Roark is now 4-2.

The Mariners have lost five straight and scored just five runs in that streak.
